Introduction
For many travellers, Sicily is a destination for culture and cuisine – but few think of the island as a first-class hiking destination. Yet Sicily offers a remarkable variety of trekking options, from coastal cliff paths to high-altitude volcanic routes.
Riserva dello Zingaro: Coastal Walking at Its Finest
The Riserva Naturale dello Zingaro is one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful nature reserves. A 7-kilometre coastal path winds through pristine coves, maquis scrubland and diverse wildlife habitats. The turquoise water, white rocks and complete absence of cars make this one of Europe's finest coastal walks.
The Madonie Mountains: Hiking in the Heart of Sicily
The Madonie range offers trails through ancient beech forests, alpine meadows and medieval mountain villages. With peaks reaching 1,979 metres, the area is comparable to Alpine hiking destinations – with the decisive difference that you can see the sea from the valley and dine in a farmhouse village in the evening.
Etna: Volcano Trekking at a World-Class Level
Ascending Etna is one of Europe's most impressive hiking experiences. Between 2,000 and 3,000 metres you move through a lunar volcanic landscape, past steaming fumaroles and enormous lava caves. Certified volcano guides accompany the groups and explain the geology with an expertise no guidebook can replicate.
Our Trekking Edition
Vivi l'Italia designs trekking journeys that combine sport, culture and gastronomy. Each hike is thematically embedded: the Zingaro tour ends with a picnic of local products on the beach. The Etna hike combines the ascent with a visit to a winemaker on the lava slopes.
